Product Development Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Support the technical development of NIO branded products from concept through mass production while maintaining the original design intent.

• Act as the primary engineering interface between the Design Headquarters in Munich and suppliers in China.

• Collaborate with Industrial Designers, Product Managers, Purchasing, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product development.

• Lead technical discussions with suppliers regarding feasibility, materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, costs, and quality improvements.

• Review engineering proposals and provide recommendations to balance design, functionality, quality, and commercial requirements.

• Coordinate prototype development, engineering samples, validation builds, and production readiness activities.

• Track project timing, engineering deliverables, and supplier milestones to ensure successful program execution.

• Support Design Reviews by providing engineering assessments, risk analysis, and manufacturing recommendations.

• Ensure all products comply with NIO quality standards, safety regulations, and applicable international standards.

• Manage engineering changes throughout the product development lifecycle and communicate impacts across all stakeholders.

• Conduct supplier visits and manufacturing assessments when required to support development and production activities.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize product performance, cost, manufacturability, and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in consumer products, lifestyle products, automotive accessories, or related industries.

• Experience working directly with suppliers throughout product development and manufacturing.

• Strong understanding of product development processes, manufacturing technologies, materials, tooling, and quality control.

• Knowledge of plastics, metals, textiles, soft goods, packaging, and surface finishes is considered an advantage.

• Experience with CAD software and technical documentation.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.

• Strong problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills within multicultural and cross-functional teams.

• Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken) are mandatory, as daily collaboration with the Design Headquarters in Munich is required.

• Mandarin Chinese native or professional proficiency is required.
